Gratitude 9: Thank Nature

Spring is arriving soon. I am beginning to see blossoms and new growth on our walks, and cannot wait until the symphony of colors and smells overwhelm my senses.

In these times of "social distancing" and closures, one doesn't need to go far to savor our Earth's offerings. Taking a walk in the neighborhood or meandering the property around my house is sufficient. I have a few potted plants in my backyard and spending time to take in the charms of new growth invigorate me. I am aware that I am a guest in "nature's" home and act with deference, touching the new leaves, removing the old ones, smelling the various fragrances, and looking at the different shapes and colors. I watch as the plants suck up the water I give them. If it is sunny, I savor the rays and imagine how each plant enjoys its nurturing quality.

I am grateful for the trees and plants that give me shade. I am grateful for the plants that feed me. I am grateful for sights and smells that nature presents as little gifts to us.

Nature is the art of God. -- Dante Alghieri
